AnyOnE?

I'm in Full PREP mode and its Sick.

I think I'm having just as much fun getting ready for this event as I am going to have riding it.

Regardless.

Been training on my cross bike and soon going to incorporate the Fixie into the mix as I got the headset pressed and the fork slapped on this past Saturday.

Also spent Sunday with my Mother and my family painting the living room, something I been meaning to do for about 5 years now... LOL... It came out great, I can actually decorate my house now, something else I been meaning to do for about 5 years. I think I may have a BYO everythinig house warming party, which is about 6 years over due soon.

Got a sick training ride planned departing the evening of the 12th and riding non stop till the miles are done. Could be alot of miles, with a little bit of everything mixed in. I am doing it on my Cross and wonder if anyone wants to JOIN.

You need supplies, money, food (if you don't restock along the way), adventurous spirit, lights and all the other things that go into the Epic kit.

You need to be at my address ready to roll by 7pm on the 12th.

If your interested email me at Nakedindian99 at aol dot com.

Ride starts and ends at my house and unless I need a cat nap I plan to ride all night, estimated mileage, 100 plus miles... Probably I'm guessing around 130 miles.

Let me know, Holler, don't be scared!

MyMiNdSMaDEUp!

With only a month and twelve days or so from the big event, my mind is made up. My preparation time table is on schedule. My equipment and packing plan is solid. My nutritional strategy is set as well as my break schedule. Also, I got plan A's and plan B's are all made up.

So, now comes the hard part. Keeping my mouth shut about my plans and my strategies. Im pretty proud of myself for sticking to my workouts and ride schedule.

I will tell You this. Im leaving alot to fate. I think steady will win the race and thats my plan. Let's see if it works. I dont know If I will have the fastest strategy But, there are so many skills going into this event that, my strategy may be the winning one that will net me the fastest overall time. October 10th will be exciting.

If anyone is looking for a safe place in Paisley to park their car,I have a local who will let u park on her property for $20 bucks for a 48 hour period. Anything more than that You can negotiate with her directly.

Good stuff, more Prep rides and workouts before the big day as well as some undercover rides that I will let you all know after I complete them...

Enjoy your weekend,

PeDAL, PEDaL, PeDAL, C'MoN LoS!!

Rides elevation profile

After work last night, groggy and tired, I slowly suited up for my "prep" ride....

I got to admit, the entire time, my body was telling me to just go sit on the couch. BUT, I dont want to suffer awfully at the CFiTT so I am prepping all I can...

I mapped a ride which combined my hilly road ride, with the Cassadega loop with the longest dirt sections of the Naked Indian ride and went for it.

Rolled out at 7 something PM. I started the ride thinking, Man I'm just gonna sight see and cruise. 3 miles into it, I was marveling at my pace and spinning my legs at a quick cadence. I get sucked in so easily...

I was at 10 miles when I hit the first dirt section, and I breezed up the climb out of it no problems, I can already see the Clermont rides are paying off. At the20 mile mark, I was looking at the time, 850pm, I want to make Placid road before 9pm, made it by 856... Then I said to myself, hmm 9pm, I want to make Range road the start of the long dirt section before 930pm. Made it by 924pm.

Range road was a mess, gigantic puddles everywhere, I had to zig zag on my Psyclocross bike the entire way. Going from one side to another, occasionally having to tread water. The road is slightly inclined, when I hit the dirt my avg speed was 16.1mph, but this road, was mushy and I felt my tires sinking at times, but I kept the pedals turning.

Cleared that section and Immediately increased my tempo to try and up my avg speed again which had dropped to 15.5 mph. I hit the longest dirt section and mashed the big ring the entire time. But its a long section and the best I could muster was 11.5 mph when I glanced at the etrex.

I kept that pace going, improvising, zig zaggin, occasionally treading gigantic puddles. Soaked wet, marveling at the scents I always encounter on my rides. Is that sweetgrass I smell? Is that Jasmine?

At the same time, I was reminiscing on the Last Ride W.P. and I did thru that section, thinking about all the good times we had. Also thinking about how much I love my cross bike, I can road ride, I can off road ride, the bitch just puts out. Also thinking how much I will miss Deltona when I move away, I love that I have the perfect training area for the CFiTT, roads and dirt roads and trails all out the front door.

Finally I made it out that section and I hit the road and went into time trial mode. I was hypnotized by the spinning of my legs almost to the point that I ended up going off the road. Turning the cranks, saying to myself, Pedal, Pedal, Pedal, c'mon LOS...

Made it to the house, 39 miles as it was originally mapped, 37 something gps miles, 2 hours and 30 something minutes, not bad after a 12 hour workday...

I enjoy life,

ConVeRSaTiOnS

Insight into actual conversations I have had in the past couple of days.....

With My Youngest Son:

Liller Naked Indian: Papa, I am stuck at school....

ME: Why? What's Up?

LllRNK: Well, I was riding my bike, and I look down at the tire, and there was a bubble, and I was just like, well I will keep riding, and then it exploded...

ME: a Bubble?

LllRNK: ya, a bubble and then it made a loud pop.

ME: well I guess you will have to walk home...

LllRNK: Well, Nick's Mom is gonna give me a ride...

ME: Ok, kool, just call me when you get home, I will look at it when I get home...

LllRNK: Ok, LOVE You Bye...

ME: Love you MORE....

Turns out he blew a sidewall on that front tire of his... LOL, thank god I found another in the attic, now he has two rear wheels one in front one in back...

Actual conversation with my Blog Stat Coordinator and traffic research personnel:

BSCTR: Well, we've been looking at the numbers lately Karlos and we have noticed an interesting trend.

ME: Ya? whats that?

BSCTR: Well, we have been asking how often people visit the blog and why?

ME: Really? What have you found out?

BSCTR: Well the people who like you check your blog about 3 times a day, reason being, to read what your gonna write next...

ME: Interesting... What else?

BSCTR: The people who dont like you, check your blog 10 times a day, reason being to read what your gonna write next....

ME: Wow, go figure, maybe I should piss people off more...

BSCTR: Thats what the stats are showing, Karlos, you need to be more of a pompous JERK, turn it up a notch...

ME: I thought I was doing a pretty good job? I will try harder...

Conversation with my Koach:

Koach: Brother, I dont recommend you do this fixie, you will most likely implode.

ME: When don't I implode.

Koach: good point, but this is an important event and you always seem to pull it off when its important, Look at PMBAR, sure you guys finished last, but you didn't quit or cramp or puke.

ME: Ya your right, I didn't. Well, I want that record, I want to have my name up in Blog Lights for years to come, cause c'mon, Me and like three other off road fixie guys in the state and that's it.... And I hardly consider myself an off road fixie guy but I can do it...

Koach: Let's just focus on riding the bike you will ride at the Tour Divide someday and go for it... Do this for me... Just ride this ride 18 speed, then you can go back a month or two later and snatch the fixie record...

ME: How bout I do it the other way, Ride this ride fixie, take my time, hang out, and then go back another time and do it gearey...

Koach: Because the PEOPLE want to see you beat Rob Roberts and Dark-horses, that's why?

ME: Do they really? What does the Fan Club say?? Can we get a hold of the president, the Warriors Princess?

Koach: she says they don't care as long as you have gratuitous pictures of you shirtless while doing the ride... They also want to know when you will start posting Naked pics, they feel your advertising falsely by saying your the Naked Indian, yet your only half naked...

Me: Really? Well, Let's Flip a coin...

Koach: Nah, let's not and say we did...

ME: c'mon, heads fixie, tails, gearey...

Koach: just to quiet your face, I will flip a coin....

Me: Ok...

coin flips and lands... Koach catches it and flips it over and the result is.......

You will find out....

CFiXX

After the comments on the previous post, I am getting even more motivated to go do it fixie. Why the hell not. I can do 170 miles over two days. As long as I survive day one, which is 102 miles I can chill at Santos, eat a big meal in town, relax, enjoy, then ride out early on Sunday and do the last 70 or so miles.

But fixie.. Deanna did almost the entire Tour Divide, minus some 30 miles, fixed, and she was a little tiny delicate flower. I am a big strong guy, I should be able to handle it. PLUS, it would really take the pressure off. I would not really have to worry about stomping ass cause It would be me, making the record happen and stomping my own ass. Then how long would it stand? Who else would be crazy enough to try what I tried, I could maybe even hang in the back of the pack and ride with whoever is back there, laughing and chilling along the way.

BUT, I think some people think I would not make it. And its hard. Your essentially making a commitment to not coast the entire ride. You will of course coast because on downhills you can pull your legs up, but still you would definitely pedal a lot. And if I did do it fixie, I would have to go ultra light on my pack, if not, my ass will hurt.

Lot's to consider.

I know there are some out there that dont want me to do it Fixed. They want me to do it geared so I don't have "any excuses". I have had some bad experiences, especially in the past year, but I also have been really testing and really pushing the boundaries and my comfort zones. I hope to show everyone the fruits of all my experimentation.

I like a challenge. So what I got to toss around in my head, is what would be the bigger challenge or what would be enough of a challenge. Either way, anyone who completes this route, is still a champion in my book. Just finishing is an achievement in itself, no matter how long it takes.

BTW, read the rules, pre arranging a campground spot at Santos would be a violation of the Time Trial rules. Those planning to tour the route and enjoy and camp at Santos, need to remember that they would have to get there and make the arrangements that very same day, if not, go find a spot and stealth camp. Wanted to make sure I pointed that out to everyone.

Ok, tootles,

Remember, Friends, don't let friends, ride junk...

A bOOk ReVIeW??

Actually, I am kind of proud of myself. I used to devour a new book everyday but lately I have not found the time I used to make to read. My plan with that is changing and I finally after several months of non dedicated reading, finished this book.

It was actually interesting how I came across the book. When I was cleaning my Office In Deland, there it was in a drawer, so I decided to read it.

If anyone has ever seen the movie "Ghostdog" then you would recognize some of the passages from the book.

The book is a story of tales and philosophies of the Samurai. Not the easiest read I have ever completed but not the hardest either. It is a very short book that provides an insight into the Samurai way of thinking. It goes without saying that there is lots of talk of suicide and killing in the book. But it also has some interesting ways of looking at things and some interesting philosophies. Some of which I actually learned from, others which I was like, damn them brothers were hardcore.

Do I recommend it? Well, depends. If you have a deep interest in learning more about the Samurai, then I would recommend it. If not, then leave it alone, just having a tiny bit of curiosity would make this book a chore, you really have to want to know more and understand more to have the strength to finish this book.

I often don't like translations because, like they say, sometimes somethings are lost. I would say, its probably more fun to watch the movie Ghostdog instead.

WeLL if I CaNt BEaT CHa!

Dynamic.

That is something I strive for in the 10 years I have been riding. I have done my best to explore almost all the dynamics of cycling (with the exception of recumbents, I just cant do it).

GEared riding, 26ers, Psyclocross, bikepacking, single speeding, fixie riding, tandems, road riding, xc racing, 12 hour team racing, 12 hour solo racing, you name it, I have tried it.

So what does that mean. Well that means, that I have a decision to make.

First I want to apologize up front to all my faithful readers. I am clearly obsessed with this Time Trial in October. Its the only Other Race I plan on doing this year so its clearly my focus. This is bad for you cause I will talk about it constantly.

So obsessed I have become that I am now wearing a watch, because, in a time trial, time is important.

So this decision I have to make.

Is it more important for me to step up on my 18 speed Black Beauty and Trial it and see if I can best the time of Rob Roberts and the Dark Horses.

OR.....

Do I out class them.

Yes, I can out class all of my competition.

How you ask?

Simple, I can go out and do this thing Fixed. Thats right folks, I may not be the fastest or the strongest, but I can ride a fixed gear 29er. I could just go out there, do 85 miles a day, camp have fun, and not even worry about being the fastest, cause I doubt there would be another fixie rider stepping up to best my time on the route. Well at least not this time.

SO, do I, go out and ride my geared bike, or do the CFiTT Fixie and guarantee me a record???

Decisions, decisions.

aNd.MoRe....

With the exception on the grains emphasis, i digg what these people are saying. I like the cut of their Jib...

GO fiGuRe!

Im doing some light reading as I do last minute prep to get my sons ready for school. This lil blurb from what im reading really does a good job of summarizing my opinions on "structured training" and "having a coach" and "training". Its pretty much useless if your not first eating right and focusing on being a healthy person.

Simple.

Obviously training works, duh! But its my opinion, if your only training and not focused on the entire set of dymanics involved, you would be better off saving your dime...

Im using my obsessive super powers to do tons of research on various subjects for my trial in October.

cheers,

CLeRmOnT PrEp RiDe TWO: Rob The HAMMER!

For those that love NUMBERS!!! First prep ride vs. The Rob the Hammer ride. 4 minutes faster, .4mph higher avg speed. Thats cool... Sure seemed like I should of done better LMAO, its a tough little ride, go try it!

So, under Rainy skies, I made my way out to Clermont. Rob Roberts said he would join me for the ride. I stopped by my friends shop in Clermont Epic Cycles, to check it out. Wow beautiful shop. I was really impressed. We talked CFiTT, mainly cause I am a promotion machine, and he gave me a bunch of stuff to read about Hammer nutrition as well as some samples; Thanks JUDE!

Here is something interesting, before I get into the story, I dont wear deoderant, nor anti prespirant. Why? Well they both contain Aluminum, and the one thing that they have found in common in all the dissected brains of Alzheimer's sufferers is that metal. Do I stink? Tell me if I do, I will promptly go wash up. I also dont use traditional toothpaste for the same reason, nor soap, nor shampoo. I use equivalent products made from plant extracts without the precious metals. I like riding aluminum not consuming it.

Anyways, So under the threat of Doppler radar green/orange/yellow madness, Rob and I rolled out. Me on my trusty steel 23lb psychocross bike, Rob on his Specialized Aluminum road bike. Now the entire ride, I am either riding behind, way behind Rob (no drafting, I refuse to draft as I prepare for the CFiTT) Next to Rob, OR trying to Run from Rob.

See I have a Modus Operandi, or M.O. to the friends that know me. And that is no matter where we go, no matter where we ride, I will without you knowing that we are racing, attack you mercilessly. I will attack, till I cant go no more, sit up, rest, then attack again. LOL, its fun to me. In my head, I got this imaginary race going on, its how I enjoy my cycling. Sue me if you dont like it. I have gotten away in some cases, in others ended up shot out the back and had to either work my way to the group or ride home alone.. LMAO... Either way I have fun.

This day was no exception. I would attack Rob every chance I got, and every time, I would look back and he was soft pedaling and easily catching up to me.

One time I attacked him, I looked back and as he passed me he was using his full qwerty keyboard on his phone to update his "not to be named social networking site Page" as he caught and passed me effortlessly.

Another time, I attacked him, he passed me, worked my ass of to try and catch him, only to find him up the road, with his bike parked by a broken down car, he had apparently just fixed the ladies carburator or something while I was doing my "best" to "close the gap".

Rob was just on fire, He climbed Sugarloaf twice before I could even climb it once. Not only that, but Rob did not underestimate me like my team mates would and on my favorite mostly downhill run back to the ride start threw grassy lakes, Rob kept the gap close, and Managed to finish in front of me right before his house.

Ya, I got ALOT of work to do to get FIT for the CFiTT. How will I do it? Well, I will do it by doing what every smart business type man would do. I hired Rob as my Coach. His fee's are modest, he said I could pay him with a handful of meatballs ala wedding singer style.

I dont know how the heck I am going to beat him at the CFiTT. There are a couple of dark horses in there as well, that I am not going to under estimate. All this thinking and planning and prepping has me wonderinng how I will handle the ride.

Will I just shoot out the gate ala Matt Lee style and just leave everyone in my dust, hoping I can make the Challenging road across Billy Bay wilderness before everyone else. I am fast in the single track, and fast in crappy trail conditions, so, and the race starts in single track. So, I know Rob will easily hang with me, I dont know about the others. And I know Rob can handle the Crappy section. So that means Rob and I will most likely be able to gain about 60 min on everyone else in the first 15 miles. Then what? Do I eat at Silver Glenn? Do I ride the dirt roads this time Like I rode them last time or push just a little more. The first 102 miles has over 4000 feet of climbing, 14 miles of single track, 20 miles of road the rest, is Up and down fire road climbing. Last time I rode it with MK and Rob, I didnt ride as fast as they did, but I also felt pretty strong at the end of it.. I am also the only competitor to have ridden these particular sections half a dozen times. So what to do what to do???

Then, where to stop and eat? Where to refuel once I get near Santos? Do I stop and sleep, will I be completely exhausted and have to sleep? Will I be able to just push on? Cause If I can push on threw the Epic Omba trail without stopping to sleep, that could easily mean another 2 hour gain on the rest of the crew, and if I keep my initial 60 min gain, that would put me with enough of a lead that I could finish the ride close to Rob or with Rob assuming he does not crumble. By the looks of our last Clermont ride, I doubt he will.

So much to consider.....

LaSt ChAnCe

Late Edit: The spot units that the racers will use are Loaners and you do not have to own one or purchase, we will use them for the event and then return them.

I am sending the final list for the SPOT devices today.

SO if your still interested in taking a shot at this fun little ride in October, email me at Nakedindian99 at aol dot com.

If not, I understand, maybe next year.

With these SPOT devices, people at home will be able to watch the race unfold from their very own living rooms.

FUN. They can keep track of the racers progress as they make their way across the course and they can see the drama of the action as it unfolds.

We are planning as well to have a Volunteer out on course taking pictures so we can get some live photos of the days event loaded up as it happens.

Exciting stuff!

HuMp DaY!

Started early once again.

Got up just a little extra early to make sure I had enough food prepped before work to make it threw the day. It was going to be a LONG time before I would be home again and I knew it, so I made sure of it early that morning.

The drive in and the work day were pretty uneventful. Admittedly I had a lot of Sadness in my heart and I was missing The Warriors Princess immensely and I spent most of the day, Not depressed, but just kind of gloomy.

Regardless, the end of the day finally came I hopped in the vehicle and drove out to Clermont. I parked my truck, managed to sneak a convo in with the Infamous Roberts before I headed out for my "training" ride in the Hills of Clermont.

Yesterday's rides numbers were not spectacular, but I did accomplish my goals and there was a lot of climbing for the short little ride I did. AND, not to violate the strictness of my training program, It was FUN.

My goal was to get the 29 miles done in 2 hours or less. I finished in 1 hour and 56 min. I dont have a road bike, I have my cross bike, which is actually perfect for me to train on cause the gearing and the weight is almost identical to my mountain bike. I rode with a fully loaded backpack, no sense in me training without it since I plan to use it on the CFiTT.

I did my best to keep my legs busy, the first 3 or so miles till I warmed up were painful, but once I warmed up to the effort I spent alot of the ride reminiscing.

I learned this loop from my XC racing days. This was the loop Team Bikeworks Orlando would do twice a week. Back then I was in my "FAT GUY" years and I was always off the back. LOL, it was always the main team peloton would pass by and then a minute later I would pass by. Thats how it went the entire ride. Team Captain, Trevor Busby, would always loop back and block the wind for me so I could close the gap, only to get dropped once the road started going up hill. I remember I could not do those climbs out there if I didnt have my granny gear going.

Yesterday, I hammered all the climbs in the Big Ring, except for Sugarloaf. Did all the climbs standing and working to work on increasing my heart rate and running the length of that climb in a high state of excitedness.

The ride was so nice and I was enjoying it so much and I was really enjoying how much stronger I was riding in comparison to almost a year ago when I went out there and did the Pre Horrible Hundred with Treadlight. I thought I rode well then, but I still remember grabbing that middle ring on every climb and the granny on some climbs, not the case today, not the case at all.

As I got to the foot hill of Sugar Loaf I saw the storm that I had been eye balling from the 5 peaks of Buckhill road was finally upon me. I fired off my tail light, stashed my music/phone device and headphones in my Osprey pack, and got ready to begin the ascent up the longest climb in Central Florida. BUT, before I could even get rolling, the chill in the air got to my bones and I had to take off my pack and pull out my rain jacket.

I began the ascent and the storm exploded on top of me. Rain coming down in torrents, lightning, wind, thunder was a crackin. Sugarloaf Mountain road had become a stream as the water poured down the roads center creating an extra 2 inches of water for resistance.

But, I was diggin the storm and diggin the sense of adventure it created in my mind, and I stood up and hammered that climb all the way to the top in the biggest gear combo I have ever done it in.

Cleared the top descended and checked the clock. I had rolled out what I thought was at 615pm so my goal was to be back by 815pm and it was now 750. I had to finish sugarloaf mountain road and make it to Grassy lake road as quick as I could. I did the work and pedaled fast and started the steep but short ascent into Grassy lakes right at 8pm.

Now back in the old group training ride days, I would always hit this section about a minute behind my team. And since on the way back in this road was mostly downhill, I would always close the gap, pass the group and then make them chase me all the way home. Being a Fatter guy at the time, going downhill made me a formidable opponent and there was never a training ride that I didnt make it back to the lot before the rest of the team. Those last 5 miles I was a BEAST, LMAO.

I remembered that, and I said, hmmm, 5 miles in 15 minutes, I can do this~!

I put my head down and hammered, and as I watched the clock tick down, I popped out on the final turn at 15minutes and 30 seconds and made it back to the car right at the 16 minute mark. Missed my goal by one minute! BUT, when I checked the total time I had beat my overall goal by 4 minutes. So in the end, I was still the winner of my own imaginary time trial!

Eventually, I got to sit and chat with the Infamous Rob Roberts and we Talked CFiTT and about all the National Support and how nice everyone out there is. We talked strategy and planning and pretty much, Imma go out there and do my best to try and defeat Black Ops Rob since he is the only one I know for sure could beat me out of the known riders. SO, we will see. I think only one time I have finished a ride before Black Ops Rob and thats cause he was sleepy sleepy, so my chances are slim. But ya never know.

My coach says it can be done, and I believe in him as much as I believe in myself, since I am my own coach.

Got home at 10pm, ate a huge bowl of Organic Spinach salad with all natural pepperoni, pepper jack cheese, cheddar, some garlic, some himalayan salt and some ceasar dressing. Watched some MINDFREAK withe my sons and got in bed and asleep promptly by Midnight.

Just another Marathon day in the life of ME.

Please. Stop Hatin.

CFiTT news Update: IMPORTANT SPREAD THE WORD.

Competitors.

There will be a riders meeting 5am on October 10th to make sure everyone has this information.

This course was laid out and was initially done as a TOUR and that is the tradition that will continue.

Riders will be forced to have FUN. Sorry, it is the nature of the event. In order to be scored accurately for the event some items for confirmation will be required and will allow future riders to help track their progress and scoring. In order to do this riders will have to have a camera.

At Silver Glenn, you are required to video tape yourself, going for a swim in the infamous glenn. Get a receipt of payment of entry fee as well.

At the Lake Eaton loop you are required to take a self portrait shot from each of the overlooks.

In the town of Eureka get a picture of the fire station on the course.

At santos, get a picture of the main information kiosk located at the trail head.

In Pruitt, get a picture of the pruitt memorial.

Get a picture of the Haltapaki reserve sign as you enter that part of the course.

Get a picture of the Canal as you start to ride next to it.

Get a picture of the big Caboose on the withlacoochee trail.

Finally, get a picture of the huge watch tower located at the tucker hill trail head.

Key element is to figure out how to get your camera to time stamp the pictures, not a huge deal.

There will hopefully be support from spot for the race and that will aid in scoring, but the picture and the mandatory sight seeing is part of the EVENT.

Hope you can appreciate the spirit of the adventure.

Finally and this is important.

The marshall swamp section of the route is considered to be part of the florida trail and is foot traffic only. IN this section racers are required to either A. Hike threw till you get to the bike path that takes you to the baseline trail head. or B. Take the alternate, which means you take 314 to baseline road, hang a left and then ride till you past the trail head and are back on the official course. Its up to you which route you take, but you cannot RIDE your bike threw the Marshall swamp section as it is part of the Florida trail and it is Foot Traffic only.

I Am A daY BeHiNd

Today is a Tuesday but it feels like a Monday.

I just spent a spectacular weekend resting and relaxing and I am looking at the next couple of weeks and just trying to keep my focus on all the task I have to accomplish.

I have got several really good emails regarding the CFiTT and I am pleasantly surprised by the National attention it has been getting. I am extremely excited by it all and I have some serious work to do to get all the ducks lined up so I can sit back and watch this event unfold via cruise control.

One of the big question marks is when I will race it. Now I wanted to do it early and set the benchmark, but then I figured I would go out the day off and take out some frustrations on my competition. Then I figured I will go out again early, but now, Im back to the race day, not to take out frustrations, cause at this point, I think the people that plan on showing up know exactly what they are getting into. This will be a race where steady and smart will win, not super fast blazing speed.

Seems like after the GPX file was released, and some of my blog post were put up, some riders have backed out. That I digg. This event is for the die hards. This event is for the guy that requires a little something more out of their riding then the structured event where you pay, you line up, you go out for an hour, and then you go home. In this type of event, you are the only one you can rely on. You have no sag stops no sag wagons, no feed stations no outside support, no security blanket. In this race, your training aint gonna mean shit if you dont know the scope of said training over a 24 hour period. In this race, its the one willing to make the most sacrificies without completely destroying themselves that will come out on top. In this race it doesnt matter how fast you can go when the road gets flat and straight, its how fast you can go over the entire length of the course.

That means in the single track, on the hilly forest roads on the sandy forest roads, on the grassy forest roads on the pavements and the rail trails on all of it.

In this race, most important of all, there is no drafting. No tucking in behind a rider and getting a break from anything. If anything, this is a race of truth. You get to truly push yourself and truly find out what your really made of. Really push out yourself out of your comfort zone and discover the real measure of your mettle. Really discover what is inside. Really journey to a place when you realize your in the middle of nowhere and your tired and your hungry and you got no choice but to continue.

Hmmm, thats fun to me. Thats the kind of stuff I live for. I love a good supported event, but I cant honestly afford it. I desire the adventure of being out there on your own, feeling like a kid again, traveling by bicycle.

So this week I will be "structured" as I plan to continue with my Yoga work and hit them Clermont Hills twice a week when Im out in the Orlando office working. That means some very long days for me, but it also means, come October 10th, my already strong physique will be even stronger. There will be no intervals, or top end or low end work or anything like that. It will all be just me, putting on miles in the only place in Florida where you can climb climb climb. And why did I pick Clermont? Well, Take a look at the CFiTT profile, although at times when you ride the course you may think its flat, there is not much flat to be had, your going up or down at one point or another almost all day.

Its gonna be FUN, and as the days go on, my strategy becomes clearer, the goal of crushing the competition becomes a reality.

So, A challenge is being issued. You think you got what it takes, you think your strong enough, you think that this is just an easy walk in the park, bring it. Put your riding where your mouth is. Come out and do this damn thing. What are your fears? If you know them, then face them? Certainly you have nothing to fear out of me, I am an overworked, undertrained, endurance rider with little to no chance of having the fastest time. BUT, I do have the extensive experience in suffering, so, hopefully that part of my preparation will take me over the top!

I Got A TiP!

The single speed build went perfect. A couple of cog switches is all it took to get the "Magic Gear" combo to work but I nailed it. Now ChoKo Brown has a 22 lb S works Single Speed bike to Cruise the great town of Panama city with.

The drive up here reminded me of an MS150 ride I did once, where a torrential downpour turned the ride into a scene out of Paris Roubaix, I really dugg that ride. BUT, me driving in those conditions, I am fine, no fear, but everyone else and there "cautious" driving is kinda irritating.

Today was TONS of Fun, as we made our way along some back streets to the beach. As we all know, I am on a serious budget. We hit the beach and then on the way off the beach, BAM, I found a crispy $20 on the ground! So with that, we bought some pizza. Then we inquired about an arcade, rode about 2 miles into a Fierce headwind. And spent the rest of the money there. The sweet part was on the way back to the car, we had the sweetest tail wind. It was a real nice day, and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Its nice when Karma Smiles upon you and gives you a little nice bonus, a Free day of FUN!

FoR ThE LoVE

I'm excited. This weekend, I get to have a nice relaxing four day weekend. I get to blow off some steam, relax, take it easy, AND I get to see the W.P. And Choco Brown.

On top of that, I get to indulge one of the Four Sacred arts of cycling.

Sacred arts of cycling? WTF is that? Well I will explain.

To me I have Four things I love about cycling and why its a sport I have done now for 10 years.

1. Riding and Shredding, the two go together.
2. Exploring ( making new routes, riding new places)
3. Touring and adventuring (aka bikepacking traveling by your own power whether you camp or hotel camp is irrelevant to me)
4. Bike Building.

Today I will take the 13in red and white S works and make it into a single speed for Choco Brown. I will head to the shop immediately after work and take that bike and make it into a one geared thing of beauty. It does have Vertical drop outs, but I have become an expert in the sacred art of the magic gear and will not need a tensioner.

Im excited! Then I got to get home and clean off my bike and pack my bags for my weekend getaway. So that tomorrow I can Spend time with my two Little Naked Indians before I drop them off and head out of town.

After that, I will work a whopping 20 days straight before I take another official day off. Not excited about that, but thats the reality of my current existance.

I am contemplating how I am going to prepare for the CFiTT. I dont have the real time or to "train" so I call it "preparing". So how will I prepare? Im thinking LONG rides in my favorite place to ride in Florida, Clermont. Maybe even daily rides, when I work out of the Orlando office and go out there and do some miles in that beautiful part of the state. Get in "shape" for whats to come.

As well, I will not be Racing on the 10th of October. I have decided that I will do it before then so I can Course Marshall and take pics when the historic day is upon us.

Which, leads me to my next topic. The rules of the ITT. The rules are laid out, but I will be typing up a way for individuals to score there run. Now people who are using GPS type of units will not necessarily have to worry because they will be able to submit there files to verify that they have completed the route as it is currently laid out. All competitors, will have to take pictures of particular key landmarks and perform task that will be video taped in order to verify that they completed the route and thus are being kept "HONEST". It would be Grand if everyone would just abide by the honor code, but as I am quickly learning, when it comes to people, many have twisted concepts of what it means to be honorable.

Take care, Find the Shred,

Hmmmm...Okaaaayyyyy....

Well,

Good news folks. Without even starting the CFiTT on October 10th, Im already guaranteed at least a second place finish, since I have received a whopping 2 intent to race letters. One of them from Rob Roberts the Other from the only single speeder and he cant even guarantee to be there, but if he does show, then he would posses the coveted single speed course record (assuming he completes the course as its laid out).

After years of XC racing, I loved it when I would hit the line and there would only be 10 people there lined up. It always meant that I would at least get a top ten finish. It's great when someone tells you the results, and intentionally leaves out how many people lined up ( I myself have been guilty of this very thing several times).

I think yesterday, I resolved that I have grown weary of the internet and all the trappings it brings. I deleted one account from a not to be named forum only because I feel that it brings me more stress then it did benefit. I contemplated deleting my 'not to be named social networking site' page as well, but decided to keep it, with the sole purpose of being an exhibitionist and writing hot wall post and loving words to the Love of my Life. Ya I guess, if you have a Blog, and you really Blog, your an exhibitionist of sorts. You give individuals the opportunity to have insight into your ideas and your life and your experiences both good and bad. I wish I had the talent that some of the other bloggers have to come up with some funny post on almost a daily and consistent basis and maybe when I can become an even better person I will find the energy to do this.

As it stands, I am elated that we have completed GPXing the route. But still feel the stresses that are upon my head daily. The constant rising everyday to work, the missing of the W.P., the constant around the clock work that I do when I get home, the impending stress of School starting soon and not having the finances to do adequate school shopping. I must admit, this morning I feel the weight of it all heavily.

I seriously look at other individuals existance and wonder deeply if they ever consider how good they have it? If they ever sit and think what it would be like to walk a mile in someone elses shoes. They sit there and stress and worry, but they probably got it real good.

I even contemplated deleting this blog. I knew it was true, that people hear what they want to hear, but I guess I am learning as well, that people read what they want to read, and interpret what they want to interpret.

Heck, I even contemplated just changing my phone number, and only giving it to a select few, just for the simplicity of it all. Just to not have to deal.

But, when I spoke to the Warrior's Princess she brought it all back in line for me. She always knows just exactly what to say and what to do and what I need to hear to realign my chakra and get my focus back to where it needs to be.

In the grand scheme of things, some people are exactly what they see reflected in other people's eyes, and some, simply are just what they want to create for themselves.

I think its time I simplify my life, and it starts by reducing my digital profile. It continues with being a having a little more discretion as to who I invite to my 'inner circle'. Not that I am anyone of extreme importance, or anyone who is so special, just because I have really no need or desire for anymore 'Drama' then I already have to manage.

Ok.

PuFF ThE MaGiC DrAgOn??

So it has been done.

As far as I know, Rob Roberts and Myself are the only two people that have ridden from Santos Parking lot, to Tucker Hill Parking lot utilizing a mostly off road route.

Those intending to participate in this one of a kind event in October are in for one heck of an adventure.

I will answer some of the questions I have been swamped with for the past 10 or so hours.

Is it harder than the first leg. Hard is a relative term. I say its just as interesting as the first leg.

Why only 70 miles? Well Frankly, I think the route as it is laid out is more than enough, Maybe next year we will go the other direction and throw 20 more miles of single track at you after you have already ridden 160 miles.

Do you think you will still win? Hmmmm, Sure why the hell not. But first, I better buy a heart rate monitor, chart a graph or two, hire a coach and spend a lot of money to win this free race with no trophy or prizes.

Has my strategy changed? My strategy regarding this race is constantly evolving. In fact I feel completely different about it today then I did yesterday. But even if I did have a final strategy down, I would not share it till after the event.

Well on to the story then...

Late I got to Rob's house I did. Why, well read my previous post, Im a single dad with two sons who works Freaking 60 hours a week.

Rob cooked a fabulous meal and I ate it all up, cause, coincidentally enough, since I was busy working my 6th day straight and I had not ate all day, I was starving.(can you tell Im mad that I work so much)

Got to bed good, slept good, got up good, ate purrty good, then went and packed good, got a latte that was good and some more food good, and then started riding.

The ride went great, and my poorly undertrained barely rides self managed to make it to the end of Nay'ls from the Santos Parking lot, following most off the Epic route in one hour 57 minutes. The effort (since I am anti heart rate monitors unless your afraid of a heart attack) was casual. Meaning I could off pushed way harder but I didnt.

I didnt have any food with me so I wanted to hit the convenience store and scout ahead for my food options. I ate, stocked up on grub, and then we got going again. Not long after, while riding the limestone road out to pruitt, I felt what I believed where the beginnings of a migraine head ache? Weird? I have not had a Migraine in over a year. Well, luckily my nutrition caught up, and I was able to ride it out.. By the time we made it threw the Hell track out the back of Haltapaki reserve, I was clear of the migraine but still had small tinge of a headache.

Rob and I felt fine, but Jonathan, which is usually a rock, looked like he got kicked in the nuts. Apparently he decided a hot day effort after a bout with the Flu was a good idea. Regardless, I knew we needed an oasis and not even 1/4 mile up the road, we stopped at the this restaurant with a big ole fan and a deck. I suggested we wait as long as needed, and it also gave me time to fight this small head ache.

I drank a beer, figured the natural blood thinning effects of alcohol would be the equivalent of taking a tylenol, and then ate a little of the fruit they bought and decided to close my eyes. I have not slept more then 5 hours in one night in weeks, I been trying to learn more about sleep deprivation. So far, Interesting, but thats for another post.

We got suited up, got going, head ache gone. Now once we cleared Nayl's I decided to scale things back a bit, I figured I was gonna do 20 miles of Croom single track after all this I better save some legs. Jonathan and Robert rode away from me, but I was doing my own ride, I was not concerned, I was scouting the future event and measuring my effort.

We continued on Rob's route and I really enjoyed it. The sun was scorching hot, but in a relatively short time we made it out of Potts (which I really liked) and then down the road to the convenience store. I refueled and once again, ate the wrong thing. As Rob explained to me later, I should not eat a bunch of protein in the middle of the ride, universe collapse, dehydration, working stomach, in the end, bad news. And the Bad news didnt hit till, I GOT TO CROOM. At that point, I wanted to take a nap.(sleep deprivation anyone) And I had nothing left, we took the shortest way we could back, probably under Rob's protest, but I guarantee, everyone will thank me come CFiTT day. As it is the ride will be a Tall Glass of HEY HOW MUCH FUN!

So, on a Sunday, Rob and I made history, and then on October 10th, we will all make history as we set out and do a one of a kind race that the state has never seen the likes of. And it was the Genius of Rob and myself that made it happen.

Its good to see people contributing to the growth of the sport in the state. It's also good to see people participating. To all that intend to come, I tell you this, finishing will be a huge accomplishment enough, winning will make a you a God amongst men.

PS: I think one of the basic skills people need to have is reading comprehension. I think its a blessing(thus the title of the post) and I envy those that have the time to train and ride. BUT, I think the ones who spend money on coaches and such, and train so hard, only to eat like shit at the end of the day are fools who are wasting their money. If your gonna train, then do the whole thing, train hard, eat right and do it big. Alot of people, from the comments I have read, didnt get that point, they missed it entirely. They thought I was saying training doesnt work. And it doesnt if you only do half the program. If your gonna train hard and then still eat fast food and drink soda and poison your body, then your just wasting your money. BUT its probably all my fault, since my english is so awful, since how come it wasnt my first language.

I say this out of LOVE, and that means its GOOD! Ciao Bitches!

LiFe....

What does it all mean?

LoL truth be told you really shouldnt be reading my blog to learn the answers of this question.

In fact, this blog is about Me. Its about my feelings my opinions my perspectives and not those of any of my sponsors.

I live by the warriors code. I believe that the most important thing we can do in life is to walk a path of righteousness. That means to always do your best to put out positive energy and usually you get that in return. You conduct yourself and promote negative actions and activity you get that in return.

Its the same advice I give my sons. Lil NI is a teen and Lord knows he has a thousand things and challenges and choices and all he can do is to do his best to make positive choices and decisions.

Truthfully thats all we can do. We cannot control others feelings. We cannot control others opinions. You could save a thousand lives and constantly give and give and people still find it easier to focus on the negative.

I once again encourage everyone to read the Book The Four Agreements. Its truly a beutiful path to follow and a poetic way to walk threw these dark valleys that we have to navigate in this sometimes cold and cruel world.

But Life? Well I got some wonderful advice from a very good friend. People do things basically for one of two reasons: Love or Fear.

If your doing something out of Love, then right on carry on. If your doing something out of Fear, then re examine your path.

Life does not have to be any more complicated then that.

Remain Honest with yourself... First and Foremost..

CaLL YourSeLf BleSSeD~!!

That's the title of today's post.

I read on that 'not to be named social networking' site's status updates, and this guy and that guy are riding here and riding there almost every freaking day.

I got 90 some odd miles of mostly off road madness for CFiTT mapping on Sunday. Last time I rode my bike. 2 weeks ago.

Why?

Well, I work 50 to 60 hours a week full time. Then I go home and provide care for two boys full time. In between that time I got to split my time with the Warrior's Princess, friends and family.

So riding daily or even three times a week falls down to the way side.

Still I got to admit, I ride with some of these guys that ride daily and all the freaking time and I am not impressed by their speeds or skills. Most of the time I still out hammer then or drop them or leave them in the tech sections or kill them in the flats or out power them on climbs.
Which beg's the question, am I just a freak of nature or do they just forking suck. I would like to think its a little of both.

I learned something a couple of years ago. When it comes to progressing your skills, its actually bad for you to ride daily or too much during the week. It makes your muscles tired and gives them no time to recover. When I hit the bike, I got so much pent up bicycle power, that I just GO. MY muscles are relaxed, well stretched (due to my new yoga obsession) and rested. So I just GO. Never mind that I am probably, one of the best Technical riders in the state (yet to be proved and or verified), Still the proof is in the pudding.

How many of you have rode with the Indian, met up to ride with the INdian, only to get dropped or only see him waiting patiently at intersections. Hell, I grew up in my MTB skills riding only the rootiest most nastiest local trails I could muster. Im an off roadie slut and will ride anything, that is dirty and off road. So I quess, those skills overtime pile up into making me a sleeping giant. Some dont think I can hammer on the road, well that's another mistake, take me on the road and see and find out why I despise road riding, its just too freaking easy to go fast.

So SUNDAY, I will go out, and I will go Map and I will go have me a nice photographic cruise through the other half of the CFiTT and finish my responsibilities to the route I co-created.

Shred and the ability to go fast is in the rider. So those of you, that train so hard, only to beat me by a minute or two should be very ashamed. Those of you that train so hard, only to edge me out in a sprint by a bike length should hold your head so low. How could you have so many opportunities to train for a sport that your only marginally good at. So much money spent on coaches and heart rate monitors when your getting your ass handed to you by a guy on a single geared bike who cant coast. I think its time to take some inventory, throw away the heart rate monitor and ride for fun, cause competitive riding and training is not working for you.

Consider this a public service announcement.

PS: I will not be getting a twitter account. Why? Well I think I saturate the market enough with my 'not to be named social networking site' page and with this blog. Who the hell wants to hear what I think and do every minute. AND, I hate the name. I think twitter is something I do in the bed room with the Warriors Princess not something I do on the internet. Well, maybe on the internet in video format and then call it art.

WhiLe ViSioNs Of The SinGle SpeeDs DanCe in My HeaD

I have the Fixie War Machine sitting there in pieces.

I have all the parts to build it. But I lack some damn Ergon Grips. LOL. Worst part is, my budget is so TIGHT now that I cant even afford the measly 30 bucks to get some.

Bummer cause I wanna so build that machine back up and be out there riding it, without the burden of coasting.

Dont get me wrong a good coastie is lots of fun, there is a certain spiritual connection that you achieve between man and machine when you ride it Fixed.

You wont know or understand till you try it.

I got an EVEN more important build project. As you all know The WaRRioRs PrinCeSS lives in Panama City and so does my Brown Beautiful. She has her 29er SS, but Gabe is currently MTB less. He has a kick as Specialized 13inch frame 26er with 27 speeds, that is light as a feather and responsive as a board, BUT, he dont like to shift. So next week, I got a project to make that thing a single speed so that My Brown Boy can hammer like he wants to. If all goes well, I got a litttle mini bike packing tour of the Panama City Beach planned for him the next time I can get up there.

Life is more fun, when you are out there creating the fun.

Laters,

PS: someone send me some free ERGON grips, cant you read between the lines here!!!

LOL

O ya... Ok...Time to GeT BacK To IT!

My week just started. And I am already thinking about this next weekend.

Hey, dont Judge me.

I work Ridiculous hours round the clock, I love my weekends...

LOL, Anyhow...

Saturday will be spent with my sons. Maybe we will visit the ocean. Ocean anyone??

Sunday though we got Man's Business to take care of as the second leg of the CFiTT will be plotted and GPX'd. Gives me a chance to finish the "marking" of the route and a chance to see how it all fits together.

See I wanna win my own race. Why not right? Man's got to have Goals. So I wanna go out there and show these kind folks in the great state of the universe, that its not just a simple bike ride, its a pack your own sh*t and carry it for two hundred miles and see how that feels.. I want others to step up, everyone and anyone who is willing to do the work. C'mon, come out and have some fun. Its a good ole time. AT the very least you will have a great adventure.

And you will get to experience what I like to Call Bikepacking in the great state of FLA!

And thats what this kind of riding is all about. Finding that extra little spice of adventure in your life.

That thing that makes you feel like a kid again.

Rob Roberts, and I, will be rolling early on Sunday.

We will traverse from Santos To Tucker Hill, following the intended CFiTT route.

Anyone is open to come and experience, BUT, here is the Huge BUT! You got to work your own logistics, cause you either ride another 88 miles back to Santos or you and your buddy drop cars and do some driving for the sake of a little extra adventure on a Sunday.

With breaks and refuels it will probably take 10 hours or less.

If you do plan on coming, we have a tentative GPX file we can share that will keep you on course just in case our sightseeing pace is too slow or to fast for you.

T'hE WeeKenD

Was spent running covert ops it seemed. Driving all night on Friday, to roll into a hotel parking lot and Recline my seat and get comfortable to sleep about 4 hours or so till the morning. Go into the hotel and use their lobby bathroom. Then off to some extracurricular activities, and then more fun, running around town, gathering things and playing.

Eating Lunch, while pretending to be someone I am not, but still feeling like the person I am, but still pretending to be someone else. Noticing the people who are noticing me, and noticing that I am being noticed is sometimes entertaining. Makes you wonder, what is it they are noticing?

Then Early check in, and some cat napping on the couch till my room was ready. X games on the tube. Damn, each year, it gets closer and closer to the things you see on the video games in relation to the tricks they are pulling. More cat napping. Damn, those two beers I had at lunch got me drunk.

Bored, got up, decided to go for a swim in the pool. Get in, man, that water feels good, but, man, is this not as fun as I thought it would be. Hit the poolside chair, and listen to music and lay there. Thinking about the afternoon and everything that has been going on for the past 24 hours. Then, back to the room for a little more relaxing. Till.... A change of plans... Hit a movie, with some Excellent company and a long lost person that I longed to see for the longest time. Race to shower and get dressed, even though I was already dressed, but then did the math and figured I would not have time to come back and get dressed, so I decided to do it then.

Funny, how when you don't know a town you think you got all this distance to cover only to find out, you were just about 3 minutes and 30 seconds away from your destination.

Good times, great feelings. Like warm blankets fresh from an oven, covering your flesh and staving off the chill of the air. Rubbing, rubbing, rubbing. God did indeed bless us with skin littered with nerve receptors, and hands that when properly trained, know just what to do to keep that movie interesting, no matter how interesting the movie isn't or is.

Then, back to waiting, ahhh, more catnapping, then the message comes and the night begins.
Details, o details I will spare the details... But it was "THE BEST EVER".....Like it always is.... In fact I don't think I have ever gotten together with you and it has not been the best ever.

Morning brings deep sleep, in fact, the deepest sleep I have had in weeks. To get up and quick pack to prepare to split. I pack up and move out, turn in my keys, head to the car, and then hit books a million to burn some clock, hoping I see YOU and that ONE person that needs to see me just as much as I need to see him.

More hanging out, great BRUNCH, thank you cause, ya know, I am on a budget. Great conversation, and even better mental and touch stimulation. I think my fingers and hands are in LOVE.

Then, off to see someone else I have needed to see in a long time. Touching words, tears were shed, only by me. LOL... Then off to make the trip home. Drive, drive, drive, sleepy, sleepy, 30 minute nap turns into a 1.5 hour nap, but you got to listen to the body.

Wake up, and do more miles till finally, I get home, and make myself breakfast at 1am in the morning. Got to love it!

Deep, deep sleep, another very deep sleep session. My body is learning to snack on these sleep sessions and maximize the effects. I wake up, go to work, and here I am.. Thinking of the next time I will escape to see you.

Sorry Mucaro, not biking related...
