OnE LiL TwO LiL tHreE LiL InDiAnS: HaLLoWeeN 2009

Day started great, breakfast at Starbucks! Check out My Male Model Look! I scored some Banana walnut Bread for the Trail, let the fun begin!

We eventually made it to the Pine Log Crooked Creek MTB TRAIL. Conditions were perfect, temp was nice and the trail was in pristine condition. 10 miles of twisty goodness, last time I rode it, it was only 8 miles and not as nice! Absolutely loved it, perfect return ridse to the bike. Yup this is my first ride since The CFiTT I envy You guys that can ride as much as You want!
Got to love the footage, no helmet cam, no auto tune!

Look out video!

Crash!

In the bushes!

Gabriel got tired and had several crashes he eventually walked and worked it all out. The trail was tough on him at the end.

Look at this little guy, prolly the biggest lizard I have ever seen this far north in F L A.

Banana bread, Yumm, taking a break at mile 8 gathering the strength for the final push!

Didnt pack it in, but I couldnt just ride by it and leave garbage on the trail, one tire, one rim and one tube..

weapon of choice, s works single speed

Weapon of choice, redline monocog

Trail weapon, war machine Fixie goodness. I love riding fixed!

PuRRRTy

Ladies and Gentleman, I show you The EYE Of the HURACAN LOOP!

Just got to fill in some gaps but this is a pretty accurate route of what we will be doing Late February or March, self supported, in a stage format, with the option to do it Solo or with a partner.

Did I mention its 300 mostly off road miles.

ToPoFuSiOn

What inspires you? Feel Free to comment and tell me.

For about a Year now I have really gotten deep into the bug of Mapping and trail finding and route finding. As you can see I have been pretty successful at it, 177 mile course did not map or discover itself, it was a combination of efforts indeed, and that sure helped speed up the process.

Currently, we have 75% of a monstrous route mapped out. I would say 100% but I am looking for a way to remove some pavement off the route and add more dirt.

Which brings me to the Topofusion software and how freaking awesome it is. I was looking at two separate parks in my area. Searching for the dirty route across, with that Topofusion software I was able to see that at some point they were bridged together either by an no longer used or non existent bridge across the river. When we go to map I will attempt to get across and bridge the two. If successful and if it seems feasible to do in a competitive environment, then I will add it to the route, if not, then I will leave the original route. The original route has about 7 miles or so of road and 10 miles of bike path, which could be substituted by 10 miles of dirty kinky goodness.

Once I make the connection the next logical step is to go out and ride it all in one giant Loop. SO, I am looking for anyone who would be interested in a 2.5 day tour. The tour would start and end at Croom. We would start on a Friday around 4pm and end on a Sunday afternoon or evening. It would be a camping out tour and the weather should not be hot at all. I am looking at the first weekend of December, but I am open to reschedule if it means I don't have to do it alone.

If your interested, Post a comment and we will be in touch. Again its a tour, fun and good times, the information recovered from this tour will be used to put the final touches on another Unique Singletrack Samurai production.

Let me know,

HoRRiBLe FuRy: FaiL???

So, After much thought. I don't think I want to Modify my War Machine, nor Mess around with my Cyclocross.

I rather leave them as is. Sometimes, builds are fun, but often, even the most minor expenses can prove cumbersome. Fore example new chains, etc.

SO instead I am day dreaming of this, Redline 925. If I can get one before the Horrible, I will ride it, but its doubtful, If I cant afford a new chain how the heck Am I gonna get a whole bike, even though the prices I seen are pretty good.

I think it would be best to just add a fixie monster road bike to my stable, that way I don't got to do any converting or anything of the such. I got a road bike that I was trying to sell, maybe if I sell it I can take the money and get this bike.

So, let me see if I can attract what I want and let me make a declaration to the universe.

I want a Redline 925 so that I can ride lovely fixie goodness on the road anytime I want with a bike that is dedicated to fixie road goodness.

Let's see what shakes,

RaTiOs

Its interesting when you identify that you have an Obsessive personality. I cant stop thinking about what Gear Ratio I want to set up on the Cross bike. For a hot second, I even thought of not using the Cross Bike at all and I still might not, I figure it might be the path of least resistance to put skinny tires on the War Machine and put the biggest front ring I can on there. I think I may do that If I can get a 42 to fit? Something tells me it wont, LOL, that Im breaking some unspoken rule or something. IF I do make it work it will be an interesting morphosis, cause I will put my cross bars on there as well and I will let the era of the Monster fixie cross begin, LOL.

The weekend is finally here and I am so excited. I have lots constantly going on, at work and at home and as it is my B day weekend, I am so looking forward to spending time with the Warrior's Princess. We are planning on Hitting the Local Gator's dockside this evening to watch the UFC fight and consume adult beverages, Yay, I get to do some grown folk things, something other than work.

Once I get the bike thing worked out, its off to the testing grounds to see if I can climb in such a monster gear, I am pretty sure I can...

HoRRiBLe FuRy, ThE SaGa CoNtiNuEsss....

This post is Oxymoronic.

I said I would not do any LONG fixie rides anymore, but at this point, 110 miles is not long.

AND, I am talking about an Organized Roadie ride. Yes, indeed, the Horrible Hundred is the only Roadie ride endorsed by the Naked Indian and I encourage you to come out and do the hardest hundred in the state.

This year, I have decided that I want to conquer this monster via fixed gear goodness. Why? Well, I assume that it probably has not been done and I'm on a mission to conquer many of these challenges across the state on a bicycle that does not coast and has one marvelous gear.

So, this Friday, I will throw a wrench party and switch the bike from geared to fixed. Use my ENO Hub wheeled from the war machine and make the war machine into a plain old single speed, since I love to ride single every chance I can.

I'm still tossing around the concept of what sized front ring I want to use, 38 or 42. I will decide sometime in the next 24 hours.

November 15th is the Horrible Hundred, come join me, but I doubt you will, why cause your scared...LOL

Is all I have been able to use for the past month...

Y'all remember the Catch 22, and the mechanical problems I had on the ride, and the discovery of my rusted tools. WELL, that Monday after the ride while I was cleaning and Lubing the tools, I cut myself SUPER bad on my Leatherman Blade on my right pointer finger. SO bad in fact that I Panicked and just bandaged it up as quick as I could cause it was bleeding everywhere.

The next morning I removed the bandage cleaned it and decided to super glue it shut ( I did tell you it was a bad cut). WELL, 4 days later, my finger was super swollen. Went to the DOC, and he gave me the typical anti biotics and such. My finger, oozed green stuff for a couple of days then closed up, but it was still super swollen.

Went back to the doc (this was the day before the CFiTT) and he told me I had to go see a hand surgeon. AT this point, I had no choice but to race the CFiTT cripple fingered. So I did, it was a little added torture as I would hit every lil bump on the fully rigid bike, my finger would bounce of the handlebars, O joy! I was pretty pissed but, it was what it was...

I go see the Hand Surgeon on Monday, he wanted $260 just to talk about the finger. Im like DOC it needs to be drained WTF is there to talk about. I go to Urgent Care in Heathrow and $175 bucks later, they took care of it, drained it and saw me about 3 more times. Currently its still healing, but wow what an Ordeal. Its Finally on the right track again and I figure in another month I should have a normal finger again.

BUT, for the past month, all I have been able to use are 9 fingers....

AwArEnESS

I did my fixie trial with hopes of not only challenging myself, not only increasing my suffering, but with the hopes of raising some funds to donate to a good Breast Cancer foundation.

Ya, $45 bucks is all I raised. Not gonna complain, not gonna start razzing people and expressing how Lame I think you all are for not donating, I mean even just a dollar, but that's fine. I guess cancer is something you don't really think about till it hits close to home, I'm guilty of the same thing I reckon, so No stone throwing on my part.

Then the W.P. brought up a good point. Lot's of people read my blog, and that I should spread some info about overall health awareness, Cancer, the causes the ways to prevent it, that maybe some people don't know about.

For example, did you know that all diseases start at the Cell level, and that insulin levels play a huge role in that. Consuming excess grains and sugars can be linked to a number of diseases not just Cancer. Lot's of people think my no grain diet philosophy is about being lean, Nah, not at all, its about being healthy.

Here are a couple of links I recommend you take the time to read, if one person, reads this, learns and is able to gain something from it, then I have at least accomplished something considering my lousy donation totals.

Before you get that Mammogram..

Cancer advances that make cancer worst...

Mammography not the best cancer screening...

How to do a proper self breast check....

If you don't want to subscribe to Dr. Mercola's site, which I strongly recommend as he is on track about good health and nutrition, you can put in my email nakedindian99 at aol dot com. Folks, its a vicious cycle, In the country we live in, the focus is not on preventing or curing illnesses they are focused on treating and prolonging illnesses, ever see the movie Sicko. Made me sick to see how good people have it in other countries and we sit here and act like its impossible to have a good successful government run healthcare program. Its simple for me to put two and two together. Pharmacies and healthcare is a business, and as long as they keep you sick, and they keep you medicated, they continue to profit. Its no wonder when you want to eat something on the quick, all you can find is food laden with refined grains and sugar. I can clearly see what's going on, if you don't want to do it for you, then do it for your kids, feed them better then you feed yourself for goodness sakes!

I recommend studying the Primal Blueprint I recommend subscribing to Dr. Mercola. At the very least, read it, with an open mind. Nearly all the health conditions, from Obesity to High Cholesterol and diabetes and cancer have a link to excess grain and sugar consumption. Do something about it, at least minimize it, help yourself. Lot's of you think being FAT is part of getting older, not true. You are what you eat and if you eat lots of dough, guess what you will be. Can you pinch an inch?

Ok, off my high horse. Since I cant donate Lot's of money, then I will donate some food for thought to help you and your family reach an even better level of health. Spend that money at the grocery store purchasing Organic vegetables, fruits and meat products(if your a meat eater). Instead of spending it on medications that will not ever cure you or help you get better and only prolong your illness.

ToTTaLLy

Friday night, I threw a wrench party in my garage. Put all the parts back on the war machine and put the black back together they way it was meant to be. Im thinking I may take the Black apart come December and have it painted all black by my good Friend Bill Hoover.

Its a thought.

Yesterday, as hard as it was, I spent the day doing nothing. I went with the LiLRNI and saw ZombieLand. A little Gorey, BUT way entertaining and funny.

Today, just cooling. I contemplated going riding this morning, but changed my mind about playing in the cold. So, h0use chores instead.

For those that are interested, I combined all my GPS tracks for the CFiTT race day data, I avg 9.5 MPH while moving, My goal was 10 mph. Interesting stuff. I love how the GPS miles never match up to the real miles, but its what happens right.

What's Next??? Well, I'm thinking a BIG O final rematch in November and then maybe some cross races If I can scare up some entry fees. I have talked about it for years, maybe its time to step up and do it. Horrible hundred is next month as well, so who knows.

October 24th is my date of birth, so I'm looking for a mellow celebration with my Lover. Really looking forward to that. House chores and work all week. Joy! Also real happy I found a patch kit that works and I was able to patch a freaking tube and have it hold, LMAO!!!

AnD oN ThIs daY I ShrEd!!! The definitive CFiTT write up Part 4

This ride sure had lots of MOJO behind it. The grips were given to me by Brett. The seat post by Rob Roberts, the Tommicog I used by the Warriors Princess. Gave the bike a Lil extra Magical power....

I talked plenty of smack about how well I was gonna do, and I delivered. I think its no coincidence that the one ride I was able to be 100% healthy for, I do pretty well in. Sure it was a victory in whereas Brett didn't finish, but I was not far from second place the entire ride. Granted, my break at Silver Glenn may have been a little too long, but I dare you to pedal 44 miles without coasting and not need a little bit of therapy and rest.

I rode a good effort and my prep paid off, the results are the proof and rewards for my efforts. Brett is super strong, and as my cycling continues to improve, maybe in a year or so I can be as strong as he is and only need a tiny baby break after the first 44. Next year when I line up I have every intention of beating the course record and I have every intention of riding my geared bike, whatever geared bike I happen to be on at the moment, most likely the Black Beauty. Hopefully more people will make their way to the event and will seek the rewards that self supported touring provides.

Both Bryan and I agreed, that Cyclist in Florida, tend to like to pay an entry fee and ride in safe courses under highly controlled environments. Lot's of them like to pay to ride in circles. That is not a diss by any means it is the current state of affairs with the majority of our athletes that race. I myself enjoy these types of events on occassion. But, Maybe after reading our accounts they will be motivated to test the limits of their boundaries. Maybe... But, it takes all kinds of riders to make up a cycling community and we need athletes that enjoy that kind of racing.

For nutrition, I used Peanut Butter and Honey sandwiches on wheat with Salt. Had some double Chocolate Milano cookies, and some trail mix. That ended up being all the food I carried. I took 3 endurolytes an hour, then I kind of slacked off. I also took one Basic Assurance supplement every 4 hours.

For gear I wore my team kit jerseys for tops, and my specialized baggies for shorts with no chamois. I wore Lycra boxers under those. I did not use a chamois for this ride. I think if my gear had not gotten wet in that strong cell of a storm I got caught In I may have avoided the saddle sores all together. You live and learn.

The bike had my XTR stans with tubeless and Specialized captain 29er tires on the front and back. I also put the Elixir as the front brake to weight weenie the bike out as much as possible. I re lubed the chain at Silver Glenn and never had to lube it again. All the pro stock bits were borrowed off my geared bike and will be returned as of today.

I rode a 32 x 17 gear ratio fixed gear and it worked to keep me steady. I don't think it really hampered me too much as you can tell by the numbers, I rode a good steady effort.

I had my mini newt light and my stella light both of which malfunctioned for some unknown reason. Since my stella is now working, my mini newt will be sent to nite rider for warranty repair. My princeton tec EOS light saved the day. The buckle on my rear seat pack malfunctioned and I had to zip tie it to keep it shut but those were the only mechanical problems.

Bike was set up rigid with no suspension.

I feel good about my day's effort and look forward to putting the final touches on the even longer ride and doing that sometime in March??? We will see.

I want to thank first and foremost the Warriors Princess for all her advice and support, she is the one who got me physically to the form I am today.
Bikeworks for all their mechanical support that they always provide as my lead sponsor. Specialized for making the best, shorts, glasses, seats, tires and gloves BAR NONE.
SRAM for providing some of the best brakes I have ever had the pleasure of using.
Epic Ride Research for making the Best most innovative portable feeding device in the Mountain bike feedbags. Not only good for food, but good for almost everything on the fly, I simply cant give them enough credit and I appreciate their continued support as one of my new sponsors in 2009.

Finally, thanks to all who participated, thanks to all who gave me congratulations your kind words and acknowledgement is truly appreciated. It is and was a truly incredible Feat that will probably stand the test of time. 177 miles is no walk in the park.

Thanks again,

AnD oN ThIs daY I ShrEd!!! The definitive CFiTT write up Part 3

At the SR 200 gas station we refueled and chatted and discussed all things bikepacking. We started talking about the finish since it seemed we were riding together. I encouraged him a couple of times to go ahead, but he didn't feel it was honorable since he could not have made it this far without having had followed me. Long story short, we agreed to finish together.

After Leaving that Gas Station we started making our way across Pruitt. Animals, were coming across our path and we almost got sideswiped by a couple of fast moving boars. We kept the pace steady, made the memorial then headed off to Haltapa. I keep peeking at the sky, singing songs off my MP3, keeping my goals short and to the next checkpoint and counting off the miles in 10 mile blocks.

Eventually, after a missed turn, we were on the Haltapa Hell track and it was just as hellish as I remembered it. If you got off the main invisible track even slightly you would be jarred by the uneven terrain. In some parts the mud was like quick sand and it would suck you down into it without warning.

After what seemed to take forever, we popped out back on the road and made our way towards the Canals. I had to put new batteries in my light to keep it bright since I had bought the cheapey batteries cause of my extremely tight budget. It didn't take long before we made the Canal, and started the grassy ride across. We came across a couple of kids at three in the morning having a Bonn fire. Kind of nice.

The weather was perfect, and there was no way I was going to ride during the day considering how delicious these temperatures felt. We got into Pott's and made our way across there. I don't quite remember but Bryan asked to stop and I pedaled ahead to have a seat on a bench, I was feeling SO sleepy. Probably a side effect of eating all that high sugar high carb food and now coming off the insulin spike.

I sat there half dozed then remounted and continued towards the Withlacoochee trail. Once we got on there the exhaustion was a serious factor and when we made the caboose I just laid down on the bench, and slept for 15 to 20 minutes. I was pretty wiped out.

I thought the first forty miles were painful but that last 18 seemed like forever. As we pedaled that damn bike trail, I kept dozing off at the wheel and some time past floral city I had to stop to take another nap.

After that Nap I had managed to adjust my focus and felt refreshed and I started feeling the ambitions of getting to the finish line. Every pedal stroke and every sitting on the seat was a lesson in extreme pain as my chapping was awful. My shorts were sticking to my sores and the pain was nearly unbearable. I would fast pedal for a bit, then carefully stand up on the seat stays and coast for a bit, it was all I could do.

After what seemed like an eternity the sun started rising and we made the turn into the Croom forest.

A couple of what seemed like big climbs, we came across the opening into the 12 mile bailout blue trail that would take us towards the finish.

The trail was in HORRENDOUS shape due to the motorcross scramble they had held earlier that week. Man, this started to feel like insult to injury, then a missed turn later and we ended up back on the road.

I had to fire off the Trackback feature on the Etrex unit and it basically told me to bushwack to get back on track. After dropping several F bombs, we got back on the trail and thank god it was smooth and rideable and in beautiful shape and I started dropping the hammer.

I was feeling new, and refreshed, and like a sprinter from a stage at the Tour De France, I could smell the finish line and started hammering it. The trail was feeling fun and full of flow and I was feeling the rush and the joy of almost being done with the my longest ride ever and my longest fixie ride ever as well.

Eventually I told Bryan we had to climb up to Tucker Hill, but that the single track climb was much better than the road climb to it. Also told him, that we had to make sure we rolled into the parking lot side by side.

Sure enough we pop out, and roll into the parking lot, 25 hours and 37 minutes to the second after we started, 177 miles later.

At the time, we thought we had tied for second place.

But, after I showered, and I watched as Bryan got picked up, I laid a sheet from my sleep kit on the ground in the shade and started resting. I got a call from Rob Roberts who told me my unit was still saying I was in the woods. So I adjusted it, and kept napping till my ride showed.

The end was anti climactic compared to the effort. But I still felt a great sense of accomplishment, it was at that time that Rob Roberts told me, that he never saw Brett's spot Unit make it to Tucker Hill. I texted Brett and he confirmed his withdrawal. Wow, we had won, I had did it. I had delivered on my smack talk. Early Saturday Morning, I had said, the winner may not end up being the fastest, it may just end up being the one who doesn't quit, and that is exactly what happened.

Amazing. For the first time I win a race and its the Longest race and effort I have ever done in my life.

Check back for my final thoughts and thank yous... One more part left....

AnD oN ThIs daY I ShrEd!!! The definitive CFiTT write up Part 2

Apparently, Bryans GPS unit was malfunctioning. Thus the reason he did not pass. But, he thought he got it back on line, asked me some directions and took off.

Me, I wanted to stretch myself out and take a nap. So I laid down and took a nap, didnt sleep much, but eventually got up and started shifting my pack loads around.

Someone got a call that Bryan was lost, I told him to wait for me that he could follow.

I finished packing up, strapped on the lights, only to find out they were not functioning. I am not sure what the issue was, but luckily that morning I had bought new batteries for my Princeton Tec EOS light. I put in new batteries, strapped my helment to my Osprey pack and hauled ass. It was gonna be 25 miles of single track with one Lumen. I was up for the challenge and had no choice as there was no quit in my heart for this adventure.

It actually wasnt too bad, I could see well enough for my pace, I was feeling good had managed to forage up a beer as I got prepared before I rolled out. Eventually at the first road crossing I got Bryan, and we kept working.

This is when exhaustion started catching up to me. Not coasting for 110 miles of off road riding had really burned some serious calories. And Although I had consumed about 900 calories at my Santos Pit Stop, I already felt hungry and already felt the signs of Fat Loss deficiency as my handling and mental clarity had lost some sharpness.

A trail that I normally adore (nay'ls trails) had turned into a technical clinic of pure mastery. Fixed gear + 1 Lumen + calorie/fat loss deficiency, turned into more mistakes then I usually make.

I was getting frustrated, my plan to put on some dry clothes was somehow foiled by the torrential downpour and putting on wet drawers had chapped my bum, every little bump in the trail equaled to a feeling of a thousand needles penetrating my butt cheeks.

I was downright angry at one point and was focused on getting out of the "epic trail". We hit the Hole in the fence and I was elated. At this point I started counting down the climbs. We had the limestone road between there and SR200 to contend with, but I stood up on it and worked it and did some incredibly fast hamster spin my legs off downhills just praying there was not a surprise log in the middle of the trail as I was clearly traveling way faster then my light was projecting.

We emerged on SR 200 and I was just hammering up the road off course to find a convenience store we found one and took a much needed break. Cokes, Gatorades, dorito's and snickers... Needle pain chapping both front and back was torturous at this point, but we did the math and we still had about 50 miles left.

The adventure was far from over at this point.......

Check back for more...

AnD oN ThIs daY I ShrEd!!! The definitive CFiTT write up Part 1

So I will save you all some time if you don't want to read the entire gory blood and guts heavily skewed details of my CFiTT run.

I did it, I won. I didn't puke, didn't bonk, didn't cramp, didn't quit, didn't get picked up, didn't camp out and sleep over.
I did it all in 25 hours and 37 minutes. Rode 177 miles. I did it all Under my own power and support. I rode every inch of the course, some of it twice.
Naysayers can promptly line up to kiss my butt, I have proven that I can DELIVER and I DID IT ALL ON A FIXED GEAR BIKE.

There. That's it. If you don't like long Gorey blood and guts detailed accounts and endless dribble about how cool I am and about how fond I am of myself and my accomplishments you can promptly click a link on the right or navigate to another site. I will give you several seconds to ponder this and then move on at your leisure.

....................
....................
....................

Ok, if your still here then you want to read the rest of this. The story will be broken down into three parts, cause one huge chunk would not do it justice. It all started on a small farm on the city line between Osteen and Deltona, a Young man Named Karlos had just got done packing and prepping his gear when suddenly.....

The door opens, its Brett. Brett came all the way from Pennsylvania talked the Infamous Dave Hawkins into giving him a ride and he was at my house early since we were gonna wake up at 2am to get to the race on time to do everything we needed to do.

I didn't sleep as well as I would have liked but it was better than nothing. We got to the race after breakfast, everyone was scrambling to get ready and the race didn't start exactly at 6am cause I wanted to make sure every ones SPOT units were tracking. So we started instead at 7am and promptly we all took off after the riders meeting and I answered any and all questions.

Within the first ten minutes I looked over my shoulder and Brett and I were alone. I didn't know if we had dropped them or if it was tactic but we just kept the cranks turning and doing the work to get out of Paisley woods.

I had a small crash, lots of sharp Hitchikers, trying to stay on top of my electrolytes and food and I was checking the clock and I was on schedule when we hit the first forest road and headed towards the paved road.

We got into Billy bay, Brett and I kept leap frogging thru there and then emerged on 19 and headed across towards the Rail Road Grade. At that point Brett out paced me and pulled away. From that point forward I watched him get smaller and smaller on the horizon.

I expected this and Never even considered the possibility of closing the gap.

By mile 35 I had run out of water completely, something else I expected, and I kept the pace steady towards checkpoint one at Silver Glenn. By the clock it showed at my arrival at the Glenn I was 13 minutes behind Brett. It didn't matter, I watched as he was already changing and getting ready to leave, I had to do some repair. Drink, take some liquid calories, refuel, enjoy the water and just relax a bit. I stayed about 1 hour and 18 minutes at the Glenn and then took off.

By that point I had watched Tom Rassiga and Bryan Frantz both roll in.

I started making my way on FR 86. The sun was incredibly hot. I kept splashing water on my head and face, taking tiny 5 second breaks in the shade, till I eventually made the Lake Eaton Loop. Once I descended down into the loop, the sky opened up in a strong cell of a storm and I suited up and put on my jacket. Got all my pics and kept going and eventually began the climb out of Lake Eaton and came across Tom Rassiga who had confirmed that he had retired from the race.

When I came out as I put away my jacket I noticed a fresh pair of tire tracks that had looped back to Lake eaton. I figured this was Bryan and I put a counter attack down. He must have kept his break short and I thought for sure he would rest as long as I did. Wrong. I took off like a Bat out of hell and raced my ass on my way out of the forest. Watching the Mileage, ticking off the miles keeping my effort steady and diligent.

I came out of the forest, hit the pavement and did the same thing. I kept looking over my shoulder and didn't see anyone coming, got to the Fire Station, refueled and refreshed spent a little bit of time at that stop.

I took off again and not even 5 minutes after I hear Bryan ride up. He says Hi, I say to him did you get a picture of the fire station. That sent him turning around for some bonus miles.

He went back, I kept the pace as best as I could on the road. Hit the 24th st road and Bryan caught me on the Limestone portion. Really nice guy, we chatted it up, stayed together, he eventually, took off and I caught up to him again at Marshall Swamp. We refueled and then took off in the single track and eventually popped out on Baseline road. He was about 20 bike lengths back, I kept thinking wow, he really does not want to violate the no draft rule, but I kept wondering why he didn't just take the front. He had gears and lots of pep he could have dropped me but instead he followed about the same distance back till we got to Santos.

At Santos, we discovered the convenience store was closed down which was a total bummer. Almost disastrous actually as I was in need of liquid and solid calories. I got a hold of Papa Johns and got them to Deliver. When I arrived at Santos, I discovered the Roberts were there and that really put a huge smile on my face. They had been watching the site and made the trip to visit and take pics, it was so good to see them after a LONG hot day.

I took a serious break, showered, changed, made some repairs, ate food, took a nap. The pizza was delicious and coke provided some much needed caffeine and sugar. Little did I know at this point what the night had in store.....

U are WhAt U EaT!!

How does it feel to be on the brink of History?

To be part of a Historic Moment that will always be remembered and acknowledged in Florida's cycling history.

Well you that are toeing the line on Saturday at 6am are becoming part of the elite group of people who will be the first to do a one of a kind event in Florida's History.

Take pride in that.

Some could not make the line and I feel for them. But I also understand, this is an open route and course and as long as they follow the rules, they can go anytime and do the effort solo. There are some of the one's who didn't make it that I am sure will go out and solo run it for the record at some point, others, well, I don't know.

But for those who make it, big round of applause to you. It is after all the first run of this race, and it is your stories and your accounts that will motivate and inspire others to venture out of their comfort zones and push their limits. Who will venture beyond the normal event and attempt something Unique. You are going to help to create a scene of Off road self supported racing in Florida. Together, we will help give the state options for adventures and fun.

For that, I tip my hat and thank you sincerely.

Undoubtedly some of you will love what we have put together. Others will suffer so much that you will curse my name at some point. Either type of feedback is appreciated..

I will type up a excerpt from the book I am reading the "Law of Attraction":

"Competition can serve you because it stimulates your desire, but it can be a disadvantage if it hampers your belief in succeeding. Find a way to have fun in competition. Look for the advantages it brings you, even if you do not bring home the trophy. And as you feel good, no matter what, you win what we consider to be the greatest trophy of all. You win Connection. You win Clarity. You win Vitality. You win alignment with your inner being. And in that attitude you will bring home more trophies."

I will carry that message with me in my very fiber as I pedal along the route this weekend.

CoUnTdoWn to ShrEdAgeDDoN PaRt 2

I cant believe the day is growing nearer by the minute.

I am as ready as I will ever be and have spent the week just resting and relaxing. Its gonna be one hell of an effort for all the competitors and I will have an extra special effort with a cherry on top doing it fixie.

I am really looking forward to getting out there and hitting the course and the woods and seeing the sights and the sounds.

I have spent the day thinking about food and doing Careful Calorie math. I want to make sure I don't have to have any hungry moments or experience any bonking moments. I am pretty sure that with patient planning I will be all good for the entire route.

I have spoken to a couple of the racers and I admire what some of these individuals are doing, they are stepping up and having faith and just going for it. They are going big and not giving themselves the option of going home without being successful.

Its a wonderful thing to see truthfully and I am excited about seeing everyone Saturday morning, loaded up and ready to roll. Come 6am I will tell everyone to beat it and we will be off on our race. I can most certainly guarantee that I will be rolling out Nice and easy. Although physically I will have stress from the effort, Mentally, I have to only concern myself with reaching the finish line. There are no other Fixie riders stepping up, so the Fixie record is mines for the taking, and I am amazingly relaxed knowing this information. Even though I am using the "excuse bike" as some have called it, I am feeling strong and confident and I see myself with a top three finish even on a one cog fixed gear bicycle. So yes, although I will be touring, I will be speed touring and I have a careful plan laid out and I plan to be diligent with my effort.

God Speed, to all the competitors, as I don't see any more blog post on the horizon till I start broadcasting live via Mobile updates.

You will be able to track my progress on the tracking page and you will be able to see my checkpoint pics and videos here, should be some pretty exciting stuff.

enjoy folks as I prepare to embark on my biggest challenge and adventure to date!!!

SPoT On!

Neat! My race spot unit!

The NaKeD InDiaN

CoUnTdoWn to ShrEdAgeDDoN

I made the final tweaks to the War machine and It is ready for battle.

My last rides will be 2 hour road rides just to practice my ridiculous spin since I will be doing the CFiTT Fixie.

Secretly I have made a prediction of the DNF rate for the race, but I will not verbalize it, I want everyone to finish.

You have as long as you need, you got plenty of places to rest and nap and heck you could even grab a hotel in Ocala if you wanted to be fancy.

At the very least Speed tour it, dont race it, just ride it at your leisure, enjoy the vast nature and the sites and that feeling of being completely alone in the middle of nowhere, looking off into the distance and seeing nothing for miles and miles.

Exhibit A. The top tube has bar tape on it. Why? Well, thats the spot I grab when I got to lift the bike over logs and such. AND, thats the spot I kneel on when I am flying down a smooth downhill or road downhill and I want to let the cranks spin freely, my own private version of coasting.

Exhibit B. The aero bars, give me another hand position, I wrapped them all the way down cause I really cant comfortably tuck all the way to the tip, but I can get tucked lower down and it does increase my speed a little even on a single speed fixie.

The kit is refined, and, the nutritional plan is SET. I wanted to get some hammer nutrition gels but I am so deliciously out of money that I will just have to go with my back up food source which I will gladly disclose at a later date, after the race on the post write up.

This will be the first race ever, in my entire 10 years of riding, that I will actually be able to physicially be on an even playing field.

Some of you remember a year ago I had surgery to fix an internal problem in which I was slowly bleeding to death. That problem had my blood count ridiculously low especially the oxygen carrying blood cells, which means, I would do races and my muscles were not getting oxygen like they should have been. I saw the doc today, and after a year of taking Iron supplements and after a year of being repaired surgically, my levels are now NORMAL across the Board. I am so happy. At the same time, it makes me wonder damn, it took almost a year for me to repair years of disrepair, but it happened.

Mentally, Im solid. I have only one vision and that is completion. I have a goal, but Im not married to it, if I do it within goal time great, if not, that's fine too.
Physically, I feel I am in the best shape I could be with the preparation time I have had. I feel strong and fit, and I feel ready.
Physiologically, the Doctor tells me my numbers are perfect across the board, everything from heart rate to bloodwork is all gold stars and all systems go.
The bike is ready, the kit is ready, I am READY! The GPS is loaded and the tracks have been tested, all systems are go. A couple more tempo rides and another weeks worth of Yoga, and then the Fixed gear party wagon will roll!

Im really looking forward to meeting and seeing the competitors, as well as seeing the after effects as I get to go home and watch the race on the tracking site after the fact and look at the splits and see how everyone did.

I EXPECT, to beat some coasties on my fixie. I EXPECT to finish in the top three even on my fixed gear bike. BUT, as long as I finish I will be the possesor of the Fixie Xross Florida Record! I am psyched about that. I may as well, go out and do an Individual time trial later to see if I can beat the Gearey record.. Let's see who snags that? I cant wait! It may not even be the fastest or the strongest person, it may be the one who just persevered long enough to finish.

EXCITING!
