Its Friday night and I am skipping across town headed towards my new friends Steve's house. Click here to see his home. Kidding folks.
SP somehow got me a ride to Felasco and we got a room and we hung out and I got to meet new people. In fact all weekend long I got to meet new people.
Out of all the Tours this one felt most like a tour. Maybe its me that changed and the rides the same, Its always been great, but this time was Superior.
Once again in usual Warrior Taino Samurai fashion, I elected a special challenge.
As a warrior I like to sometimes repay the creator with feats of great skill and or suffering. This time I decided, that me and my newly found Fixed Gear of Fury would pay a Flesh Debt to the creator.
So I had all these aspirations. In my mind I had created this imaginary vision of what my TDF would be this year. Like Friends, Jokes and shots of Sailor Jerries, maybe even some Freestyle rap.
But NO, of course out of now where a cold front blows in. Seriously folks, it was like 76 on Friday and 36 on Saturday.
Truth be told I didn't care, I had told Rick, "I will go shirtless tomorrow morning," I have no fear of Florida's Cold. Truth is, wherever I go, I have learned the best tactic is to FORCE ACCLIMATION.
What does that mean, well, as long as your feet and head are warm, and you know the temperature is going to climb to temperate, then you really don't need any extra cold weather gear cause you will warm up quick.
So I took my shirt off and it felt absolutely awesome. I think I know understand why Matt Mcconaughey spends all that time with his pecs exposed. (kidding again folks, get a sense of humour)
It did feel good, I got dressed, waited for Harvey, and then rolled out.
Now Luis and his Buddy Wayne we were all going to ride together.
But I slowed down to wait for Harvey and they took off. So you know, I was like, this ain't nothing but a G thang, Imma chase you boys down and run from Harvey all at the same time. (at the moment I found these thoughts amusing, don't judge me)
When I got rolling, I suddenly felt a sugar rush. I felt as if I was an extremely well fed child at a candy store, but I was hungry for trail. I started devouring everything in front of me. Soon I was passing people, saw my friends, got on their wheel for a minute and got scared quickly.
I was reminded by my inability to coast and had to either add more space between him and I, or get around. I got around and then eventually, I saw Harvey out the corner of my eye. I kept riding, and he went by and I said laters.
Mucaro, SP and Pinky, were off the front by a good thirty minutes. But I figured if I skipped the rest stops I could catch em. So I stopped at rest stop one, chatted with a kick as cat from Gainesville, and then hopped back on the fixie fury continuing my chase.
Well low and behold as I got my cruise on, I was riding with Wayne and Luis again and Bam out the corner of my eye I see what appears to be the Travelocity Gnome.
And I'm thinking, Self, WTF is a gnome doing in these necks of the woods.
I immediately yelled TREE GNOME to Wayne in front of me and I hung a Ueeey to go investigate.
Jump back on the bike after Fiddling with the gnome and then hauled ass to catch Luis and Wayne again.
I hit a fire road ready for a change of pace. When your constantly riding trail you have to concentrate so hard, that some fire road or double track is almost like walking on the beach. I can sit up and stretch my self a little, fury is hard work folks!
I told Luis Mt, that I would see him at Lunch and Really put the baby sledge hammer down. I honestly felt as I had some rocket assisted power.
I got to the next rest stop, super fast. Grabbed a shot of Trail Mix and got back on. More Hammer time.
Turns out I went the wrong way at that very moment. I started heading back to the parking lot, following the White Arrows. Got over the Horse Bridges, had a talk with some folks, and felt the bottom of my tour falling out.
WTF worth would be a San Felasco Fitty if I didn't do Fitty! I was FIT, I was STRONG and I DESERVED to get my Fixed Fitty.
But at that moment, my resolve was shook.
"a warrior must learn to decide, quickly when going headlong into battle",
This time, I didn't do that. I decided to walk off the trail, lean up against a tree, put up my hair, Clean my face and just think. Oddly enough, the very spot I sat in, there was a Pond. And I thought to my self, wow, I'm pondering my tour, by a pond.
Anyhow, I sat there for a little while, ate my food. I figured I had missed lunch, so I caloried down. I got back on, started riding and not even 1/4 mile later there was another rest stop.
So I decided to go back. And after a very silly conversation with the BEST rest stop of the Tour, I was escorted back to the front of the peloton by Martina.
Martina was splendid for taking me back to the front, and Brilliant for pointing me in the wrong direction once again. And although it wasn't for long, I ended up riding even more out of my way, before I finally ended up on course again.
I was now back on and this time, I had already started sounding the bell for a push!
When your riding Fixed Fury on the road, you can put your feet up and give your legs a break. But on the Trail, no coasting. I was starting to feel it, but I was aggressive. And after once again playing Ghost, with Luis MT, Wayne, Anthem, Jonathan, and Endo, I took off.
I was riding as hard as I could. I was kinda bothered that I had diced my chances of catching the Mucaro, but still was enjoying every single minute I was spending lost out there. The conditions were damn near perfect and as I was lost, I came across this gem. This tree was bent and shaped in the form of a Letter P. To me this is of very deep significance cause my Wife's name is Paloma, and she is the Warrior Princess.
I had to stop again.
Anthem and I buddied up hard. Brother was hyped. I finally had found someone who was as jubilant about the mix of terrific trails and torture as I was.
We finished the ride, we hammered, we laughed, and we climbed. By now this was the second time I was doing the next to last part of the end section and I didn't care, there was nothing but good climbs back there. This years tour was the best yet!
Thanks to Marcel for all you do, Steve for rolling hardcore as a mutha! And Rick for not knowing the rules to shotgun; anytime you guys want to ride I am here.
Now on to other Business, I need to ride the Ididaride! Someone send me a ticket ASAP, don't you guys got press passes for these events.
The Fixed Gear of Fury Series must continue!
BTW, my legs are destroyed and I made every climb, I am proud.
Fixed GEAR.
